Synopsis

Kaboku Kotani has a stutter, and it's shaped his entire life around one goal: don't stand out. He enters Ichiran High School planning to keep his head down and get through the next three years without drawing attention to himself. Then he sees Hikari Wanda dancing — not performing for anyone, just completely lost in movement — and something clicks. Dance doesn't require words. It's expression without the thing that trips him up every day. So he joins the dance club, which is terrifying for a guy whose whole strategy has been invisibility. This 12-episode TV series from Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics adapts a seinen manga, and the production reflects that pedigree. They used motion capture with professional dancers for the choreography, so the dance sequences actually look like dancing instead of the usual anime shortcuts. The soundtrack features over 30 original insert songs, which gives the whole thing a rhythm that carries you through episodes. The heart of it is watching Kabo slowly crack open. He's not suddenly cured of his stutter — he's finding a different way to exist in the world. If you liked how Welcome to the Ballroom captured the intensity of partner dance, or how Your Lie in April tied artistic performance to emotional healing, this hits similar notes with a warmer, more grounded touch. Fans of Kimi ni Todoke's gentle approach to a shy protagonist will feel at home here too. It's a quiet show about a quiet kid learning he doesn't have to be quiet.
