Enter Tobimaro! The baseball rivalry between him and Mendo is hilarious because Ton is practically indestructible. The way Ryoko blatantly cheats to help Ton win is so unhinged. Absolute cinema to see Ataru and the gang completely ruin a serious sports showdown. Pure slapstick perfection!

Baseball? 😅Love letter? 🤣 But rather than a serious sports arc or sweet romantic confessions, this episode is more of expanding the screentime of the Mendo sibs with lots of LOLs 😆

What even was this episode? The number of weapons thrown and the number of misunderstandings were absolutely crazy. I am, however, getting tired of Ataru self-inserting himself everywhere he possibly can. Focus on your own girl for once, goddamnit. The pacing is crazy, the plot doesn't even exist, but I'm in it for the chaos and the top-notch, fluid animation.

Episode Context

Sitting just past the halfway mark of the 23-episode season, Episode 14 pivots from the lighter standalone comedy of Episode 13's snack battles to expand the cast in a meaningful way by introducing Tobimaro Mizunokoji, a character who will factor into future rivalries and romantic tangles. This is a world-building episode disguised as pure comedy, deepening the Mendou family connections while setting up recurring dynamics for the back half of the season.
