READTHROUGH
Zeus's Curse
The episode opens with the heavy shadow of Zeus's wrath. We are reminded of Ulysses's brief triumph over the Cyclops, a fleeting victory immediately punished by the gods. Zeus freezes Telemachus and the crew, condemning them to a timeless wander through Olympus. This sets the stage for the constant, almost inescapable burden Ulysses carries.
A Glimmer of Hope
The Odyssey approaches a vibrant planet, a stark contrast to the despair of their journey. Shyrka identifies an unknown world, full of potential. Inside the ship, Thais gathers flowers, expressing a simple wish to bring beauty to her frozen brother, Numaios. Her gentle gesture, placing the bouquet beside his suspended form, highlights the personal stakes of Ulysses's quest.
The Promise of a Cure
Ulysses and Shyrka discover an abandoned planet, once home to an advanced civilization. Its massive structures are silent, devoid of life, a haunting emptiness. A probe reveals a global medical and reanimation center, perfectly preserved. Ulysses sees a chance, a glimmer that this technology might wake his frozen crew.
Ulysses's Orders, Thais's Defiance
Ulysses discusses the reanimation facility with Telemachus, planning to scout it himself. He explicitly orders Nono to stay with Thais for safety on the ship. But Nono, excited, tells Thais. Her desperation to save Numaios overrides all caution. She immediately decides to take her brother down to the facility, pressuring the reluctant Nono into helping her.
First Steps on the Cursed World
Ulysses and Telemachus land their shuttle on a pristine pad. The city is unnaturally silent, a quiet that feels wrong. They notice jagged cracks splitting the ground, suggesting something powerful is pushing from below. Ulysses's hand goes to his laser pistol, a writer’s signal of coming danger.
The Secret Mission
In the Odyssey's cargo bay, Thais and Nono struggle with Numaios's suspension pod. Nono is clumsy and worried, but Thais is focused. She skillfully pilots a secondary shuttle away from the Odyssey. The craft speeds toward the planet, hidden from Ulysses's view.
Into the Empty Hospital
Ulysses and Telemachus enter the medical building. Automatic doors welcome them, a calm, synthetic voice echoing through the silent halls. Dormant consoles line the corridors, glowing with an eerie light. Ulysses sees the cracks from outside have invaded the interior walls, a sign that the danger is closer than they thought.
The Guardian's Warning
A holographic guardian appears, a wise old man, explaining his people conquered death using Olympus's energy. He welcomes them, yet his message is tragic. The gods, jealous of their hubris, cursed the world. They sowed seeds of destruction: predatory, multi-eyed 'wild flowers' that consume all flesh and blood. Ulysses finally understands the cracks, and the horror of their fate.
The Planet Awakens
As if on cue, the cracks burst open. Thick, green vines with glowing yellow eyes erupt from the ground, tearing through the city. The holographic guardian urges Ulysses and Telemachus to flee. The facility shakes, metal groaning as the vines rip through everything. Ulysses grabs Telemachus, and they run, their earlier hope now a desperate flight.
Thais's Dangerous Hope
Unaware of the spreading terror, Thais and Nono place Numaios in a reanimation chamber. Thais, surprisingly adept, initiates the process. The machine hums and glows, surrounding Numaios with a purple aura. Thais prays, her eyes fixed on her brother, her hope unwavering.
The Race Against Time
Ulysses receives a frantic call from Shyrka: the children are on the planet, directly in the flowers' path. He calls to Telemachus, rescue now their priority. They fly low over the city, dodging massive vines, the entire world transforming into a deadly, pulsing jungle.
Trapped
Inside the lab, the vines force their way in, their multi-colored eyes fixed on Thais and Nono. Nono tries to block them, but the vines push past his futile efforts. Thais, torn between Numaios's ongoing revival and their immediate danger, insists they cannot stop the machine. The room fills with the sounds of destruction and the reanimation's hum.
Ulysses's Impossible Choice
Telemachus spots their shuttle, half-overrun. Ulysses leaps out, laser pistol and shield ready, cutting through vines, deflecting green energy bolts. He finds Thais and Nono huddled by the machine. Ulysses demands they leave, but Thais refuses, believing stopping the process means permanent death for Numaios. Ulysses makes a terrible choice, holding the line against the encroaching flowers while the machine finishes its cycle.
The Bitter Retreat
The reanimation cycle completes, but Numaios remains frozen, unresponsive. The attempt has failed. The building collapses around them. Ulysses grabs Thais, ordering Nono and Telemachus to help drag the pod. They flee through crumbling corridors, dodging debris and grasping vines. They escape in their shuttles just as the medical spire is swallowed by the predatory flowers.
The Weight of Loss
Back on the Odyssey, Thais is devastated, weeping and apologizing for her reckless hope. Ulysses embraces her, reminding her that his heart shares her longing, but patience is required. He looks out at the planet, now a mass of pulsating green eyes and vines. The Odyssey leaves the cursed world, continuing its endless journey through the void.
