Amidst their zealous proclamations, Elendira the Crimsonnail observes Knives with a strange sadness, questioning why his impending triumph still feels so hollow. Elendira's strange intuition heralds Vash's arrival. He stands on a desolate cliff with Nicholas D. Wolfwood and Livio the Doublefang, looking over the ruined landscape. Vash clutches a worn photograph of himself, young Knives, and Rem, as he wrestles with Knives' motivations. He questions if even he, who can sense the Plants' emotions, truly understands their desires, or if Knives' paradise is for anyone but himself.

From a distance, Meryl Stryfe watches Vash's group, Milly Thompson by her side, noting the vast emotional distance traversed in mere years. Milly wonders how the weight of 150 years affects Vash, if his tragedies feel distant or as fresh as yesterday. Meryl, with a melancholy note from her harmonica, hopes for a peaceful end to his prolonged sorrow. Their human perspective anchors the cosmic scale of Vash's struggle.

Legato Blue Summers stands before Vash, mocking his presence and declaring himself Vash's "Angel of Punishment." He manipulates a skeletal Plant with eerie grace, claiming to test his faith against those he deems faithless. Wolfwood, bloody and bruised, calls out Vash's name, a desperate warning. But the choice is already made. Vash, his face etched with despair, pulls the trigger. A flash of light engulfs the scene, and Legato's lifeless body falls to the sand. Vash has made the impossible choice, bearing the weight of a life taken, a burden he never wished to carry.

In the wake of Legato's death, Knives' transformation culminates. He rises, a colossal, ethereal plant-like being, glowing with destructive power. His intricate form radiates a cold, blue light, a chilling symbol of his completed ascension. An ominous title card appears, counting down to the immigrant fleet's arrival: only one day remains until the final confrontation.
