The episode is well crafted in building tension. From Kaneki's ordinary life, events gradually turn dark and frightening until a tragedy occurs that completely changes his fate.

Un gran primer capítulo, te mantiene atrapado durante todo el episodio. Las animaciones de Ghouls son bastantes únicas. La transformación de Kaneki como Ghoul es muy difícil y triste.

The explanation for ghoul and all are easy to understand. The story starts light but then it took an unexpected and brutal turn on the story. Intriguing to watch!

The raw scenes are demonstrated with stunning visuals. The sequence and flow of this episode earn a reputable name among the best introductory episodes of all time(Fate of Kaneki). The mechanics of the Ghoul and their Hunters are explained in a way that is easy to comprehend.

Even the small detail about ghouls vomiting/having a bodily reaction to eating normal food added so much realism to the concept of these supernatural creatures. Kaneki's realization of what has become of him was as mind-bending as intended.

(SPOILERS) The contrast between Kaneki being flustered over Rize, to her ripping him apart moments later was chilling. It makes the audience become on edge and feel like they're in Kaneki's shoes; in a moment of pure suspense and shock.

This episode establishes an amazing tone for the rest of the series, in terms of the gore and what to expect of the plot. The modern warning systems of ghouls, and the separation of ghouls from humans is disturbing in it's own way.

S1 EP1. I can’t imagine the idea of transforming from human to ghoul without your consent. I love how the episode, the animation, and graphics shows the loneliness of being alone. But it change to warmth tone and colors when Kaneki found his pact.

Masterful pacing in Kaneki’s psychological shift. Didn't thought the episode turns dark. The contrast between the cafe life and the underground was striking. Between Rizze is beautiful 😍

The transition from mundane bookworm life to a literal nightmare is haunting. That Rize sequence? Pure chills. Studio Pierrot nailed the visceral feeling of losing one's humanity over a single plate of food. A masterful setup for a psychological descent. Must Watch! ToT

Kaneki goes from a normal life to a nightmare. What starts as a simple date turns into something brutal, and his transformation is both disturbing and sad. Watching him struggle to accept what he’s become hits hard. A really strong and emotional first episode in my opinion...

Kaneki touching his chin when nervous? Bro that’s me fr 😭. Animation on his anxious face was so detailed and real. Went from chill book boy to “oh nah something’s wrong” quick. Atmosphere started soft then flipped dark, got me locked in instantly.

Bro I was NOT ready 😭 The first episode already feels dark and uncomfortable in the best way. What starts off normal turns into something horrifying so fast. The tone is heavy, almost tragic. You can feel Kaneki’s fear and confusion. I didn’t expect to feel this uneasy.

yes another tragedy happen few anime have the potential to evaluate our trauma fear and desired at once and they become super relatable not that fiction part but the struggle of the character face in this episode, Good Luck Tokyo.

Easily displaying themes ranging from becoming something you’ve always feared, a vision of self worthlessness, and the farfetched vision of humanity we all cling to in the face of surviving. Sometimes you need to be force fed the truth.

Our boy Kaneki just wanted to be happy, so he dated this seemingly cute young lady. Our boy was mistaken; didn't screen check this B for red flags. Now our boy is craving "MEAT." HAHAH Literally. Is this some sort of new STD? Naaah bruh. This ep is jam-packed with lore for our MC

The first episode does a good job of catching the audience's interest and keeps things going fast pace! The world-building seems intriguing, but if you cannot deal with blood, maybe sit this one out. The gore is a little heavier than it is with most shows, so be cautious.

That opening scene was wild. First episode was decent but kinda confusing ngl. Kaneki's date going that wrong was wild. The reveal at the end hits different. Interested to see where this goes.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first of twelve episodes, 'Tragedy' is pure foundation—establishing the world's rules, introducing the central cast, and detonating the inciting event that drives Kaneki's entire arc across the season. Everything that follows stems from what happens here. The next episode, 'Incubation,' picks up the immediate aftermath as Kaneki confronts the terrifying reality of his transformation and the hunger that comes with it.
