'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Scarred by countless battles and utterly relentless, the Princess has led humanity's armies to victory against the demonic Hellhorde. She's been captured, thrown in a dungeon, and now faces interrogation to extract her kingdom's most guarded secrets. Sounds intense, right? Here's the thing: the demons' idea of "torture" is waving freshly made toast with butter in her face, or letting her smell a perfectly seasoned bowl of ramen. And she folds. Every single time. This 12-episode TV series from PINE JAM is basically a fantasy prisoner-of-war comedy where the battlefield is a dining table. The Princess tries her hardest to stay loyal and keep her mouth shut, but her sentient sword Ex can only watch in disappointment as she caves the moment someone offers her a rice ball. The lead interrogator, Torture Tortura, keeps coming up with increasingly elaborate food-based temptations, and the whole dynamic between captor and captive is weirdly wholesome. Nobody's actually getting hurt, but it's more like a cozy hangout between enemies who kind of like each other. If you enjoyed the oddball demon-human relations in Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon or the food obsession in Dungeon Meshi, this hits a similar sweet spot. It's got that Maoyuu Maou Yuusha energy too, where the "enemies" barely feel like enemies. Light, funny, and genuinely warm, a good pick when you want something relaxing with zero stakes and maximum comfort food.

Episode 3 Thoughts: 🥹💕 This episode was surprisingly touching. It’s so heartwarming to see the Princess finding genuine friendship with the very people who are supposed to be her enemies. Their little outing in the park was such a wholesome scene. 🥹🌸 And the Hell-Hord Demon’s daughter is just TOO CUTE! 😭💕 I loved seeing the Princess encourage her when she felt discouraged about not being successful at “torturing.” The way she told her to keep doing her best was so sweet. And her father? Such a loving dad! 🥹 I also think this might be one of the reasons why the Princess is still in the torture prison. Every time she promises to reveal information after being tortured, the Demon Lord can't simply let her go especially when it involves his daughter. He just can't risk going to war, particularly when his daughter is involved. There’s a little more emotional weight behind those scenes than the comedy initially lets us see. And lastly… the Knight who rescued the Princess. 😂 I just can’t with this Princess. SHE REALLY DOES HAVE A THING FOR PRETTY FACES! 🤣🤣🤣 She'd rather punch the perverted knight who was trying to save her than be rescued by him! 😂 At this point, I'm starting to wonder if her greatest weakness isn't the torture at all… It’s handsome people. 😂👑💘
Episode 2 Thoughts: 😂✨ This anime is so fluffy and comedic, but if you actually pay attention to the scenes and the lines being thrown around, there's a surprisingly sad layer underneath all the cuteness. The “torture” the Princess goes through is basically everything she has been deprived of the simple things she never had the freedom to fully enjoy. As a Princess, she carries so much responsibility and has spent her life suppressing her own wants just to become the role model her kingdom and the crown expect her to be. And honestly… that's kinda sad. 🥹 I'm now looking forward to the next episodes, not just to see what happens to the Princess, but to uncover more about the other characters too. Like the Excalibur! 😂 It feels like he may have watched his partner surrender to the “tortures,” but somehow, he seems genuinely happy seeing sides of the Princess that he rarely or perhaps never gets to see. There's definitely more to these characters than the comedy lets on. Also, can we talk about the ASMR?! 😂 The food sounds are dangerously effective. And somehow this anime managed to give us cute gore torture with Gorilla snacks and a bloody chocolate execution. 😭🍫 Whoever came up with this concept was definitely cooking… literally. 😂 Episode 2: Princess — 0 | Food — 2 🤣🍴
This is the anime that will officially start my goal of watching anime alphabetically. Nyahahahaha! 😂 I just hope I can actually make it all the way to Z. 😜 Anyway… I was NOT prepared for Episode 1. I thought I was here to watch an anime, but apparently, I also signed up to be TORTURED. 😭😂 Like, LITERALLY! It triggered my hunger and cravings so badly. WHO PREPARED ME FOR THIS?! WHYYYY?! 🤤 I finished Episode 1 craving: 🍞 Toasted bread with butter 🐙 Takoyaki 🍜 Ramen with that meaty, creamy broth And apparently, even if I become the princess, food will still be my ultimate weakness. 😂👑🍴 Anime: 1 — Me: Defeated by food. 😭🤣
This was an adorable last episode! It was wholesome to see how the demons and the princess care so much for each other, they want to stay together. The pacing is also crazy! The ending I could NEVER see coming! A must-watch! I'm so excited for second season!
The sword being all cute and embarrassed I CANNOT, so funny! The princess really cherishes her new friends, and the demons enjoy her presence as well. Hell Lord chibi version is pure gold! Punk Datarma is awesome! Tiny Torture won my heart! This was a very whimsical episode!
Cute episode, even if it was a bit all over the place. I felt so many things happened so fast, but I suppose it was towards the goal of showing the deeper bonds between the princess and the hell horde. The Hell Lord and White Knight becoming friends over anime cracked me up!
I can't with the Hell Lord having the meanest face while saying the nicest things! Anytime the princess reveals a secret, the Lord's moral compass stops him from acting on it, which is funnily ironic. Loved seing his family dynamic more! Torture is an adorable character too!
Another nice and chill episode. I quite enjoyed learning more about Enki and Youki, how their friendship goes way back. It's also very curious that demons have a school system and jobs. I guess you can't escape capitalism! The new Harm Marshall is adorable, I want to see more!
I can't with this anime, it's too cute! I love how educational Japan can make anime sometimes! The Hell Lord being a family man while looking so evil is just gold! The princess is being less and less treated as a prisoner, she hangs out with the demons as friends. Wholesome!
The Hell Lord as a loving and doting father is one of the best parts of this anime! His relationship with his daughter is adorable, and we learn that he also wants to live more freely. The white knight trying to save the princess is too funny. He's a bit of a pervy old man, tho.
This was a calmer episode compared to the rest! We get to see the bonds getting stronger between the princess and the demons, and this life she's living doesn't seem like torture at all! Mama is such a fun character, but Ex cracks me up every single episode! Pure comedy!
The Hell Lord bursting with joy after having a glass of beer is so relatable and hilarious! I'm smiling all through this anime, I definitely recommend it and I haven't even finished! All the demons are so nice and I can see a beautiful friendship in the horizon! Ex cracks me up!
"Dumb Face-o-Meter" cracked me right up! This anime is peak comedy, my favorite character so far is a sword, go figure! I love that the demons in general are as nice as they can be. After this episode, I'm pretty sure that the princess is actually having a lovely time!
A sentient sword full of personality was not on my bingo card, but I love it! I can totally resonate with Krall, I could never deny anything to a cute bear cub. All the creative ways they find to "torture" the princess are pure gold! The princess is hilariously unreliable!
Now this is an original take for an anime, loved it! The animation is simply beautiful and the comedy is up there. I was smiling the entire episode! I love that the demons decided to hit the princess' weak spot: food! The friendly ghoul preparing meals was the best touch for me!
I really love the contrast that the demons in this anime are so kind especially the parent figures that always tickles your heart. The ending was slightly paced too fast for my liking but was creative nonetheless while still implementing real life events for relatability.
A very cute episode where we see characters in different times of their life. I love the attention to details to each character after they changed body from their thinking to their body language. The princess' reactions are top notch along with Ex' retort for a humorous episode.
We get to see the true strength of the princess and the demon lord which says a lot about the consistency and attention to details of the anime. I love the unexpected connections of characters like Louch and the demon lord and the unpredictability of the anime itself.
We dive in to the personal life of the members of the demon lord's castle bit by bit. The character contrast of the demon lord's face and speech with his kindness is very funny.I love Vanilla's addition as a completely new variable on the dynamics and events around the story.
The episode diverts from torture by making torture so normal to the princess daily life. This diverts to the idea of the anime but was made for a much needed lore of our cast and then immediately returned to the theme.A heartwarming episode overall with a slice of life feel.
