The clash of ideals, the end of the samurai era, and the immortal spirit of mutsu enmei-ryu were executed to perfection. The long awaited duel between Izumi and Hijikata in the northern snow was pure poetry. Every promise was honored, wrapping up the show on the highest note.
Honestly, this finale episode leaves you hanging, especially with an ending that follows the same pattern as the previous arcs featured in this series. Despite that, it delivers a deeply satisfying face off, even if their fight scenes end on a massive cliffhanger. In addition, the animation was really good, perfectly complimenting its classically traditional and canon storyline.
An epic final chapter keeps you hooked from beginning to end, featuring one of the best battles in a Mutsu series. We see Shinsengumi Vice-Commander Hijikata face off against Izumi after delivering Okita's message and sword. It's fast-paced, canon within the story, and has an unexpected ending. Quite entertaining and enjoyable to watch. A great anime with rich historical content from the Edo and Bakumatsu periods, beginning with the Meiji era.
