The desolate snowy landscapes and Izumi's quiet determination to reach Hakodate sets up the finale perfectly. This episode has incredible atmosphere and tension.

Compared to the previous episode, which was very solemn and emotional, this one delivers a continuous flow of political disputes alongside engaging action scenes. It is a deeply captivating episode that keeps you completely hooked, leaving you eagerly anticipating how this series will ultimately end. Furthermore, the pacing here is remarkably well balanced.

This episode sets the stage for the anime's finale. We see Izumi searching for Hijikata to deliver Okita's message, while simultaneously being pursued by Ran, who seeks Okita's revenge. The story unfolds as Hijikata loses battles and the Shinsengumi is wiped out, but ultimately, there's something he still wants to do. It's a fast-paced episode, full of action, emotion, and a touch of nostalgia. It's canon within the storyline and quite entertaining to watch.
