The transition into the Bakumatsu era is fantastic. Izumi has such a cool, laid back vibe, and his instant chemistry with Sakamoto sets up this new arc so well.

This new episode features another cliche set of character dynamics, yet it provides an engaging synergy for the new narrative flow. However, the pacing remains the same, relying on a very slow runtime and heavy conversational focus that makes the episode feel somewhat dragging, yet compelling at the same time.

We see a fairly entertaining first episode; we have the third and final arc of the anime, where we'll meet the next generation. On one hand, there's Mutsu and Ryoma, who, along with many other characters, will be the focus of this third arc. It's a well-paced episode, with plenty of dialogue, few battles, but equally entertaining and full of surprises. It's canon within the story and enjoyable in its own way.
