Episode Context

As the season premiere of the seventeenth installment, this episode carries no narrative baggage from prior seasons. Yami Shibai runs as a standalone anthology, so each episode is its own contained story. This first episode establishes the thematic and visual tone that will define Season 17's particular flavor of horror, signaling to returning fans whether this season leans toward psychological dread, supernatural folklore, or body horror. What it sets up is not plot continuity, but an expectation: each subsequent episode will deliver another self-contained tale at this same intensity level.
