Yoko's Nightmare and Mundane Morning
Nakajima Yoko is plunged into a nightmare of isolation, a giant bird with fiery wings diving towards her. She wakes trembling, the unease clinging to her even in her own room. Her mother immediately grounds her back in a suffocating reality, lecturing Yoko about her naturally reddish hair, a perceived flaw that must be corrected to maintain appearances. Yoko's father remains aloof, absorbed in his newspaper, while Yoko submissively apologizes for her very existence.
The Burden of Conformity
On the bus, Yoko observes Sugimoto Yuka, an outcast ignored by others, while Asano Ikuya tries to engage her in polite conversation. Yoko walks with Asano, admitting her weariness with meeting everyone's expectations and her desire to step down as class representative, but she lacks the courage to act. In class, Watanabe-sensei announces Yoko will continue her role, drawing insincere applause, further trapping her. Later, a group of girls cruelly demands seating changes to avoid Sugimoto, putting Yoko in a moral bind she fails to navigate, leaving her feeling like a coward.
Sugimoto's Sharp Truth
Yoko tries to offer comfort to Sugimoto in the courtyard, but Sugimoto responds with biting hostility. She calls Yoko a hypocrite, disgusted by her pity, accusing her of only being kind to feel better about herself. Stunned by the raw honesty, Yoko can only watch as Sugimoto walks away, leaving her to grapple with the uncomfortable truth of her own inauthenticity. The falling cherry blossoms, once a symbol of beauty, now mock her fragile, perfect life.
Portents and Pressures
A sudden, violent vision of a shadowy figure wielding a sword flashes through Yoko's mind, blurring the lines between dream and reality. Her mother's insistent call about the hair salon appointment further emphasizes her lack of control. Later, she sees Asano happily integrated with popular students, deepening her sense of isolation. A magnificent, glowing bird briefly offers solace by the riverbank before another gruesome vision of a monster being sliced apart leaves her clutching her head in pain. Back at school, Watanabe-sensei confronts her about rumors, her carefully constructed reputation crumbling under the weight of external judgment and internal chaos as the rain begins to fall.
The Oath
A tall man with flowing blonde hair, Keiki, enters the school, his purposeful strides echoing through the empty halls. He moves with an otherworldly intensity, finding Yoko in her classroom. He locks his gaze onto hers, a silent, profound recognition passing between them. Suddenly, Keiki kneels before a terrified Yoko, performing a formal ritual and swearing his life and obedience to her as his 'Aruji,' his Master, as strange magical light swirls around them.
Chaos at School
Watanabe-sensei enters, questioning Keiki's presence, but an invisible monster violently strikes him down, shattering windows and leaving him bleeding. Keiki warns Yoko that trackers are hunting her specifically, urging her to flee as monster screeches and shattering glass echo through the building. Yoko sobs as Keiki guides her through the now chaotic school hallways, the familiar setting torn apart by supernatural forces.
Rooftop Escape
On the rain-swept school roof, Yoko finds Asano and Sugimoto huddled in terror. A giant, demonic bird, a Kochou, descends, attacking Yoko, but Keiki defends her with a magical barrier. The roof battle escalates, tearing apart the structure, before Keiki summons a majestic winged beast named Kaiko. He instructs Yoko to mount Kaiko, preparing for their escape.
The Sword and the Others
Keiki offers Yoko the magnificent, ornate sword, the Suiguutou, telling her it is the only weapon that can protect her. Yoko trembles, terrified by the blade and her new, violent destiny, but accepts it under Keiki's urgent insistence. As more monsters appear, Keiki summons other beasts, including the wolf-like Hyouki, to transport Asano and Sugimoto. The students, overwhelmed by the sight of the supernatural creatures, are ignored as the beasts leap from the rooftop, soaring high above the city, carrying them away from their world.
Harbored Power
The group lands at a deserted harbor, where Asano and Sugimoto collapse in emotional shock. As the monsters close in, a powerful spirit named Joyuu emerges from the Suiguutou sword, possessing Yoko's body. Her eyes glow, and her posture shifts, transforming her from a terrified girl into a lethal warrior. The possessed Yoko draws the blade and, in a blur of motion, slashes through the attacking Kochou monster, its dark blood spraying across the pier.
The Portal and a New Path
After the monster's death, Joyuu leaves Yoko's body, and she collapses in horror, staring at her blood-stained hands. Asano and Sugimoto gaze at her with fear and revulsion, no longer recognizing their friend. Keiki tells them they must leave, and surprisingly, Sugimoto demands to go, drawn by the allure of this new world. Keiki performs a ritual, opening the 'Shokuku,' a massive, swirling vortex in the ocean that leads to his home world. Yoko, Asano, and Sugimoto are carried into the glowing water, passing through the dimensional barrier.
Into the Otherworld
Yoko is held tightly by Kaiko as they pass through the final layer of the vortex, her eyes wide with terror and wonder as a mythical sea and alien sky unfold below them. The modern city is gone, replaced by a vast, strange world. Her screams fade into a whisper as she lets go of her old life. The episode ends with Yoko plummeting through this new sky, her hand reaching out for the world she left behind, facing a desolate future alone on a strange shore.
