Synopsis

In a quiet Okinawan coastal village, aspiring novelist Shun Hashimoto — estranged from his family after coming out as gay — drifts through life. He spends his days writing and drifting through life until he notices Mio Chibana, a reserved high school kid who recently lost his mother, sitting alone by the shore. Their conversations start small — awkward, careful — but there's a warmth between them that neither quite knows what to do with. Then Mio leaves for the mainland, and three years of silence follow. When Mio comes back at 20, he's not the same quiet kid, and whatever was left unspoken between them can't stay that way anymore. This movie is only about an hour long, and it uses every minute well. The Okinawan setting isn't just pretty background art — the ocean, the light, the slow rhythm of island life all feed into the story's mood. It's contemplative without dragging, and the animation has this soft, expressive quality that makes even small moments feel intimate. The film handles coming out, family rejection, and grief with real care instead of turning them into melodrama. If you liked Doukyuusei for its gentle pacing and genuine emotion, this sits in that same space. Fans of Given who want something quieter and more focused will find a lot to appreciate here too. It's a small, honest story about two people figuring out what they mean to each other.
