The Rose of Versailles (Movie)

📖 SYNOPSIS

This movie, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the "Versailles no Bara" manga, follows Marie Antoinette, an Austrian princess betrothed to the French crown prince, Louis XVI. Upon arriving in Versailles, she encounters Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, the Captain of the Royal Guards. To Antoinette's surprise, Oscar is a woman raised as a man due to a lack of male heirs in her noble family.

Antoinette, stifled by courtly rules and seeking companionship, quickly befriends Oscar. However, as the queen's childish actions and abuse of power escalate, Oscar finds herself torn between her loyalty to the royal family and the growing poverty and unrest among the common people. The film explores the struggles of these two women, burdened by societal expectations, as they become key figures in the events leading up to the French Revolution.
