This episode perfectly displays how Ashiya's kindness can truly and deeply affect others, whether they are human or yokai. But I can tell that Abeno is handling this with complex feelings regarding Ashiya, but in the end what he truly feels is that he cares about him as a friend.
This episode caught me completely off guard. After spending so much time building Ashiya and Abeno's partnership, seeing that bond suddenly thrown into question creates real tension without relying on cheap drama. The quieter moments hit the hardest, and you can really feel how much the characters have grown since the beginning. It left me desperately wanting the finale.
The shifting from quirky comedy to a deeply isolating character dynamic, dragging out the emotional distance. Making the silence feel heavy. The mood is perfectly matched visually by stark, empty frames that emphasise the physical isolation.
