This episode is more on the serious note. Tatsuya is always so serious when it comes to Miyuki's safety but her strength is equally splendid. I was hoping to see Miyuki shine as bright as him in the future!

The episode returns to a slow and calm pace, with the plot focusing more on strategy rather than action. I love the protective dynamic between Miyuki and Tatsuya; plus, the way they pay such close attention to their surroundings is incredible.

The ancient city insurrection arc has begun and politics and tension have immediately entered Nara. The participation of traditionalist magicians and the threat of the thesis competition are curious. The trnasition from steeplechase to this new mystery is beautiful.

Episode Context

Arriving at episode 9 of 13, this marks a critical narrative pivot, the Steeplechase competition arc wraps in Episode 8, and 'Ancient City Insurrection Part I' launches an entirely new conflict thread that will carry the season through its final stretch. The shift from school competition to political intrigue raises the stakes considerably, positioning Tatsuya against threats that operate outside the controlled environment of inter-school events. As the first part of a multi-episode arc this late in the season, it's clearly designed to build toward the climactic payoff of Season 3's endgame.
