Episode Context

The Castle of Wax Murder Case reaches its conclusion, and this is where Kindaichi earns his reputation. Episode 9 delivers the payoff that the previous two episodes have been building toward, expect a dense, revelation-heavy finale to the arc that rewards close attention to detail. The tone remains dark and claustrophobic, leaning into the gothic atmosphere of Wax Doll Castle while Hajime Kindaichi pieces together the web of motives and misdirection surrounding him. Pacing shifts from slow-burn dread to rapid-fire deduction as the mystery unravels. Classic locked-room energy dominates here, with psychological tension between suspects running high. For fans of traditional detective fiction, this is the kind of episode that showcases why early Kindaichi cases set the template for anime mystery storytelling. A satisfying capstone to the show's second major case.
