The first episode has a good pace and does a great job of building up to what's coming next, which I really enjoyed. The animation is the main reason I started watching this anime, and so far, it hasn't disappointed. I can't wait for the action to begin!

This series instantly begins with chaotic atmosphere. The dynamics between the characters are very interesting and funny. The pacing is quite fast and the world- building explained in considerable detail. Can't wait to see Sable's character development.

Right from the start, the characters are really funny and cute! Plus, even in this first episode, the plot is wrapped in mystery, which makes it all the more intriguing. And honestly, the animation is pretty awesome.

Episode Context

The Dawn of the Witch opens with a character-driven premiere that prioritizes world-building and introspection over spectacle. Expect a deliberate, measured pace as the series introduces Sable, a struggling magic academy student carrying the weight of a blank past. The tone balances melancholy self-reflection with flashes of dry humor, grounding its fantasy setting in genuine emotional stakes rather than rushing to action setpieces. Key relationships are sketched out early, Headmaster Albus and the mysterious Roux Cristasse both make strong impressions that signal their importance going forward. The episode leans into themes of identity, belonging, and what it means to find purpose when you can't remember who you are. If you're looking for an immediate action payoff, recalibrate; this premiere is investing in its foundation for the long game.
