The Apothecary Diaries Episode 5: Covert Operations

Not as thrilling as the episode before, but still an entertaining watch nonetheless. I was a bit disappointed to know that they didn’t lean onto the horror curse aspect from the opening scene, but I get it, it’s about dismantling horror and rumors to prove it’s the work of medicinal properties. At least it foreshadows some enemies coming its way with the secret messaging. Anyways, fun episode, MaoMao being reliable as usual helping everyone out and serving up some candy just shows how important she is in the palace. Also, who knew she was such a beauty, I thought of her as just cute, boy was I wrong, can’t wait for next episode.

This episode is better and more engaging and the mystery feels deeper and more serious Maomao again carries the episode well It is slow but satisfying man this is absolute cinema must watch

A curse or rather a new mystery arrives in the Rear Palace while the place prepares itself for a garden party with the Emperor and the 4 upper-first rank Concubines, including of course Gyokuyou. But can the party run safely when something mysterious is running behind the scenes?

Less medical stuff than the previous episodes, but this one still manages to show how innovative Maomao really is. She could be the Thomas Edison of her era if she were more ambitious 😂

Episode 4 shows Maomao treating a mysterious rash on a scared eunuch’s hands by carefully observing and using her medical knowledge. Later, the story shifts to Gyokuyou’s servants as they happily prepare for an upcoming imperial garden party, adding a lighter moment.

A build up episode full of clues and questions. Smooth pacing in terms of information delivery for a foreshadowing of upcoming events. The deduction of the rashes mystery was detailed and easy to understand. I love the use of facial expression and the pause in Jinshi's reaction.

You can feel the relationships slowly shifting, especially around Maomao and Jinshi. Nothing too dramatic happens, but the quiet tension keeps it interesting. It’s one of those episodes where small details really matter.

I take back what I said about Jinshi being creepy. His and Maomao's dynamic has developed into something I can now support. That being said, this episode was a lot slower than the previous ones; less problem-solving and more preparing and building up to the next episode.

The last part is really heart-fluttering, and it makes you excited to see what will happen to them next, plus that mushroom scene, haha. What I like about her is that no matter what situation she’s in, she keeps her composure. I’m hoping to see more mystery to unfold.

There’s something so comforting about this episode’s flow. Maomao approaches problems with such calm logic, and I honestly wish I had even half of that composure. The way she processes things step by step is incredibly satisfying to watch. I really love how the show doesn’t rely on dramatic twists to keep things interesting. Instead, it’s all about the journey of figuring things out. And somehow, that’s even more engaging.

Not much of a scene solving situation. More like preparation for the upcoming mysteries. But I was surprised with Maomao's true looks. She's so cute and pretty. I really thought this is the first time that the FL looked average and yet this episode totally smacked down that.

Kinda mid episode with the burned soldier but it may lead to something bigger in the future. Main eye-catching part of the episode is them preparing for the garden party which makes me more excited for the next episode!

The animation of this episode was soo good. Especially the coming garden party. Maomao is busy in preparing her newly-found mushroom recipe. Also she stumbles upon the rare "curse" that the a man had. Story is getting interesting! Everyday is a mystery-solving day for Maomao! Between she was looking beautiful in the new appearance 🥰

Man the animators cooked in this episode making the garden party scenes and Maomao getting a makeover for the Garden Party was gold! she was just like a cat being forced to bath. It was really funny

breather ep after the intensity of ep 4. Maomao solves a "curse" that's really just chemistry and nobody is surprised. the real highlight is finding out why she fakes her freckles and Jinshi's reaction to seeing her without them is sooooo good and sweet ugh!!!

A total feast for the eyes at the beginning and end of the episode! The animators clearly put all their effort into animating the preparation of the garden party scene, the foreshadowing at the beginning is kind of cliche, but it gives enough clues.

The character development of Maomao in this episode is really good, the build up in scenarios also gives the tense when watching. From lighthearted drama to intense and high stake episodes. There are also revelations that you need to take note and not miss.

The moment when you experience a romantic thrill.
Maomao became Gyokuyou's attendant before the garden party began. Jinshi was captivated by Maomao's beauty during his visit to Lady Gyokuyou. Following the tragic kidnapping story, he gave his hairpin to her as a his lady.

Episode 5 Depicts Jinshi's character always working in sidelines making sure nothing bad happens. It also showcases Maomao's creative mind in providing comfort in uncomfortable situations. The episode showed how much lady Gyokuyou adores her attendants.

Episode 5 shows the intricacies of Maomao’s life; from her relationships, interests, and duties. Compared to the previous episodes, the animation quality is inconsistent, with some scenes having 3D elements embedded into it, while others feel flat, whilst supposed to be 3D.
