The tension builds through careful progression rather than big reveals. Maomao’s use of tools like vials keeps the investigation grounded, and the steady pacing makes each step feel earned. It’s more about process than spectacle, which fits the series well.

It seems like defiance is the overall theme of the episode. From characters finally snapping from years of constant abuse and guilt, to those that ignore orders to give some sense of dignity for the fallen, it seeks to amplify the humanity of the cast. Nice way to finish it up.

The storyline just keeps getting better and better, it’s totally worth watching! There are so many unexpected things happening, and it has even surpassed my expectations. More revelations are still unfolding, so I might as well watch until the end.

Gave it max stars. The more we get to the near end, the darker the plot gets. You'll all be shocked on what happened I'm telling you. Take this from a guy who's not a big fan of these types of anime. Totally worth it!

Super hype episode 🔥 Maomao and Jinshi moments hit hard. A lot is happening but still easy to follow. Definitely one of the most exciting eps!

This episode give such an important lesson for me. When i saw shishui, she looks sad and carrying all alone on her shoulder but still tough and helped who is important to her. She taught me about friendship who as a mutual trust 😥

I still cannot get over what Loulan did to those children and the thought of her choosing that as a mercy killing is just so heavy and dark

The look on Jinshi in that armor is just so massive for him and it is about time he stepped up like that and took charge of the situation

I was waiting all season for the Shi Clan stronghold to get stormed and watching those political pieces finally fall into place made the whole siege worth it

I'm still reeling from Shiui poisoning those kids; it's just wild how desperate she must've been to think that was the best option, even with Maomao potentially having a solution. My heart just sank watching her make that impossible choice, wondering what kind of trauma led her to such a grim calculation.

I was genuinely taken aback by Jinshi in his armor; he looked completely different, and it was so cool to see him drop his usual flirty act to command the imperial guard with such authority. It really made me realize how much he usually holds back, and seeing that serious side of him was quite something.

I felt so awful for Loulan after that mercy killing; it really hit me how she must’ve seen no other option, trying to spare those poor children from such a brutal end by the army. It just shows how utterly desperate the situation was for her to even consider such a horrific act.

Watching the stronghold unravel was intensely suffocating, I really felt trapped right alongside them. And when Shenmei finally cracked over losing her daughters, a part of me felt a grim satisfaction, but mostly I just wondered how much of her affection was ever real, or if they were just extensions of her own twisted desires all along.

The way Jinshi just materialized with the Royal Guard, finally giving us that Moon Prince reveal, actually caught me a little off guard—I thought they'd drag that out longer! My favorite part, though, was definitely Maomao's age comment; it just reaffirms that she truly doesn't give two hoots about his fancy titles, which makes me grin every time. But wow, Loulan's sacrifice, after everything she'd been through, left me with a lump in my throat; I really didn't see that coming.

My jaw practically dropped when Loulan finally stood up to Lady Shenmei; I was so surprised she actually went through with it after everything. It just made me realize how much she'd been suppressing, and honestly, she truly deserved way better than the hand she was dealt with that family.

I couldn't help but laugh when Maomao still teased Jinshi about looking old, even after he pretty much confessed he's a prince; it's just so her to be completely unswayed by status, and honestly, that comfort around him speaks volumes about their connection.

I can't believe how much more tragic the whole Shi clan situation feels now that I've learned Shishou's real reasons for everything he did. It just makes me see him in a whole new light, and honestly, my heart aches for what they went through.

My heart absolutely sank watching Loulan destroy that gunpowder; it felt like such a desperate, almost self-sabotaging move, but I guess when your own mother is that manipulative, you just snap and take things into your own hands without thinking about the consequences.

I was so surprised seeing Jinshi in full armor, actually leading the imperial guard and not just observing! It really hit me that he'd finally dropped the whole eunuch act to protect Maomao, which just makes me think about how serious he truly is about her.

I'm still reeling from the revelation about Loulan, like, killing those children to spare them a worse fate at the hands of the soldiers? That's just devastating, and then to see her quietly hand over that hairpin to Maomao, it really makes you wonder just how much she'd given up already.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming directly off 'Taibon,' where Maomao unearthed crucial intelligence about the Shi clan, 'Royal Guard' functions as the ignition point for the season's climactic confrontation—this is where buildup converts into action. Positioned at episode 22 of 24, it bridges the investigative groundwork of earlier episodes with the explosive fallout expected in 'The Shi Clan' and the finale that follows.
