Though often filed as mystery or crime, The Apothecary Diaries has always shifted values with startling ease: family drama, comedy, darkness, then romcom. This episode with the infamous “frog” is one of its funniest and most anime-aware moments.

A clean resolution that emphasizes closure through small details. The calm tone and careful handling of key items give the episode a satisfying finish without overcomplicating things.

Loved this episode! Since I’m into rom-com anime, hoping for more scenes of the ML and FL together. She's super smart and great at mysteries, but when it comes to romance she’s so slow, I’m very satisfied, it made up for the boredom I felt in the previous episode.

And that sums up the sexual tension between our unlikely couple, and it's done quite hilariously. So much so, that it became an iconic internet meme that popularized the series. That aside though, it seems there are ways to go for this relationship, and we're only half way there.

To be honest, I don't really care on what's gonna happen anymore or what the plot is. I'm a romcom guy and I want more of Maomao and Jinshi like in this episode! More of these please! My cravings for romance has been satisfied!

This one is intense but also emotional. Maomao and Jinshi feel closer but awkward lol. I like how the tension builds up. Makes you wanna watch next ep ASAP!

Tragedy that is disguised as an opportunity for Jinshi to confess to Maomao. But Maomao trying to avoid the matter means she's not yet ready for that. Only medicines can make her feel thrilled and all smiles. But I do feel a bit sad about Maomao's childhood experience.

Honestly, that frog comment completely blindsided me, I couldn't believe it came out of nowhere like that. And Jinshi? Oh man, I totally felt his pain, he looked like he just wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole, it was hilarious and a little sad to watch his cool facade just crumble.

Seeing Jinshi so vulnerable and genuinely grateful when Maomao was just wiping his brow really caught me off guard; it makes me wonder if his usual teasing is just a front, and his feelings for her are far more sincere than I’d initially thought, especially when contrasted with all the typical palace antics.

When I saw Consort Loulan just standing so still in that garden, knowing her father was scheming something big, it really gave me the creeps. And then Maomao finding that metallic gunk on the ritual pillar just makes me wonder what kind of sinister thing they're actually planning, it’s not looking good for anyone.

Gah, the second he actually said his real name, Ka Zuigetsu, my stomach just dropped; the atmosphere in that cave immediately became so much heavier, and I really started fearing for Maomao, wondering how deep the rabbit hole goes with this guy.

I can't believe Maomao was way more hyped about getting that ox bezoar than finding out Jinshi is *literally* a prince; it honestly just confirms how her brain works, always prioritizing the obscure and scientific over something as dramatic as royal lineage, which, fair enough, but I really just wanted Jinshi to get some sort of win with her for once.

Gaoshun's desperation in that cave was really something; seeing him so uncomposed after all this time truly showed me the gravity of Jinshi's secret and how deeply loyal he is. Basen's frantic digging just added to my overall anxiety, making me genuinely worried about them getting out.

I totally cracked up when Maomao called Jinshi a frog, it's so her to just completely shut down any feelings or thoughts about him being a guy by resorting to insults. I mean, it's classic Maomao trying to keep her emotional distance, and I can't help but wonder if that's really gonna last much longer.

My stomach totally dropped when Maomao figured out that knowing Ka Zuigetsu's true identity, like him being the emperor's brother, could literally get her killed in the inner palace. It's such a dangerous secret to stumble upon, and I'm honestly worried about how she's gonna navigate this mess without getting caught up in something even worse.

I couldn't help but laugh seeing Jinshi practically pour his heart out to Maomao, while my girl was completely fixated on the ox bezoar he just gave her. Honestly, her scientific curiosity always takes priority, even over something as big as Jinshi's personal history, and I find that so true to her character.

I literally gasped when Maomao touched his leg and clearly realized Jinshi wasn't a eunuch, you could practically see her trying to reboot her brain. Her calling him an "ordinary frog" right after was such a classic Maomao move to cope with the shock, like she was trying to brush off how much that revelation threw her for a loop.

I was practically screaming when Gaoshun finally said Ka Zuigetsu's name out loud; seriously, I’ve been waiting for that official confirmation since basically forever, and it’s wild how much Jinshi has changed, almost like he's shedding a skin now that it’s all out in the open.

I totally cracked up at the contrast in the cave scene; Jinshi's over here having a full-blown identity crisis, and my girl Maomao is just laser-focused on a wooden pillar and some metallic residue. Honestly, it's so typical of her to be worried about practical things like building stability when everyone else is in a panic, and I think that's why I find her so relatable.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the exact halfway mark of the 24-episode season, 'Ka Zuigetsu' follows directly from 'The Hunt,' where Jinshi made a significant move toward revealing his identity to Maomao, and now the fallout of that decision takes center stage. This episode functions as a critical bridge—processing the weight of what came before while recalibrating the Maomao-Jinshi dynamic for everything that follows. It sets the emotional and narrative foundation for the season's back half, making it essential viewing for understanding the trajectory ahead.
