The reveal of Kiriko's involvement with the GP and the introduction of interpersonal, romantic drama is an addition I really enjoyed. However, the episode takes a dip in the second half, sacrificing building upon the first half in favor of worldbuilding. Bummer!
The comedy felt forced and I didn't manage to laugh. With the low-quality graphics here, even though it's an old anime, it kinda made me lower my expectations. It did deliver some conflict in this episode, but it wasn't enough to hook me. Overall, 4/10
the Kiriko revelation episode and emotionally one of the more interesting early episodes. Seina arriving at GP Headquarters and discovering Kiriko — his childhood friend — is already an immigration officer there is a genuinely good character beat. it recontextualizes the whole "family signed him up" situation and adds a layer of bittersweet complexity to what had previously been mostly played for comedy. the dynamic between Seina and Kiriko is the most grounded relationship in the show and this episode establishes that with real care. the title is accurate — it really is truly painful in the best way.
