EPISODE REVIEWS

To not say that Symphogear G is just perfect, we got to admit that the show has one weak link in the form of Dr. Ver. It’s been 7 episodes so far, and while the show has already made it clear that he is the main villain of the season, he does not hold up to Finé in last season, which makes his appearances borderline annoying, like how he acted in this episode. Making one just wish for the moment that Hibiki will finally be able to land a good old punch on his face.

the episode that makes Hibiki's condition impossible to ignore and it's devastating. Tsubasa finally learning the full truth, Chris and Miku finding out simultaneously, and the weight of everyone now knowing that Hibiki's Symphogear is actively merging with and consuming her body changes the entire emotional register of the show going forward. the superb song standoff between Hibiki and Kirika/Shirabe — Hibiki using her own to cancel theirs to stop them dying the way Kanade did — is so good because it shows Hibiki protecting people who are trying to kill her and not seeing any contradiction in that. the twist that Fine's soul is actually in Kirika rather than Maria is a genuinely shocking mid-season pivot.

In poetic fashion both users of Gungir are told to refrain from using it lest they cease to be. Perhaps Shirabe was too quick to judge our Hibiki, Hibiki and Maria are one in the same. The mad doctor is doing his best impression of a discount Mayuri Kurotsuchi. In his madness he does not realize he's burning bridges, what will happen to him once he outlives his usefulness I wonder. With the new revelation on Hibki's state will the hero sit this one out and let another pick this mantle, or will she soldier on for her comrades, for her friends, for the world?
