EPISODE REVIEWS

Symphogear has a lot of cool moments and good songs, it is the formula that makes this show succeed, but if there’s one thing this episode is able to do that surpasses all other episodes so far, is it ability to give you straight up chills down the spine. Honestly, a perfect and unexpected execution that not only up the stakes for the fights so far, but also elevates the show to a new frontier.

the karaoke contest subplot of Kirika and Shirabe trying to win Chris's pendant by singing a ZweiWing song is so quintessentially Symphogear that i can't even be mad about it. it's absurd and it's completely committed to the bit and the contrast with Ver mercilessly killing children who stumbled upon the base makes the tonal whiplash feel intentional rather than careless. Maria breaking down completely at the sight of those deaths is the most human she's felt so far and it starts separating her clearly from Ver's actual agenda. the revelation that Hibiki and Maria's Gungnirs share the same resonance pattern is a big lore drop handled efficiently. and Maria's memories of her sister Serena add devastating context to everything she's fighting for.

The Pink Ranger and the Green Ranger challenge the Red Ranger to a sing off winner take all! I'm new to the series so bare with me I try to do my best with being impartial. It went from shonen to seinen real quick caught me off guard with that one. It's a great episode deserving of 5 stars its just the tonal shift from the beginning to how it ends is quite jarring. I loved every second of it from beginning to end, it just felt all bubbly, happy, fill good moments only to turn to soul crushing anguish, with a hint of despair. Felt real bad Hibiki, that evil scientist is definitely going to get his shit kicked in
