Sugar Apple Fairy Tale
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A 15-year-old candy artisan, Anne Halford lives in a world where fairies are enslaved through their stolen wings. After her mother's death, Anne sets out alone for the Royal Candy Fair in the capital, determined to earn the title of Silver Sugar Master. The roads are dangerous though, so she buys a bodyguard, Challe Fen Challe, a warrior fairy who's beautiful, cold, and deeply resentful of humans. The catch is that Anne genuinely doesn't want to own him. She treats him as an equal in a society that absolutely does not, and watching Challe slowly process that someone might actually mean it is where the emotional core of the show lives. The romance builds slowly, layered over real tension about power, trust, and whether kindness means anything when one person literally holds the other's life. The confectionery art angle is surprisingly lovely too: Anne's sugar sculptures are tied to the magic system and her growth as a craftsman actually matters to the plot. It's a 12-episode TV series from J.C.Staff, based on a light novel, and it has that same gentle-but-not-shallow energy you get from Snow White with the Red Hair or The Ancient Magus' Bride. If you liked Yona of the Dawn's blend of a determined heroine navigating a harsh world with slow-burn romance, this hits a similar note, just with more sweetness, literally. The tone is romantic and emotional without being saccharine, and Anne earns her victories rather than having them handed to her.

That ending was diabolical bro that is not good for my heart, I can't handle it noooo. It was such an unexpected ending and I felt so heartbroken it genuinely isn't funny. I really enjoyed this show, every episode has never failed to keep me hooked and make me keep wanting more. Love it so much, highly recommended
Ok I love how Mythril is some sort of romance coach lol, love seeing him be the middleman. I also can't believe they managed to introduce a character worse than Jonas, at least Jonas has some what of a redemption but that truly shocked me.
Mannnnn the misunderstanding comes lol, it got me feeling a lot behind the screen. I love how Anne stands her ground and voices out her opinions despite being in a male dominated environment, she's so slay and girl power I love her. I also love it whenever Benjamin has an appearance, he's such a cute lil guy
I lowkey think the sudden timeskip was a bit weird lol there could be some narrative or more visuals but it just skipped with text on the screen. However it's nice to see Keith introduced, so far his personality is good, waning to compete with Anne fair and square unlike Jonas lol
We get to see more backstory and reasoning from the Duke which made the whole picutre clearer. Love how fearless Anne is and props to Mythril to be honest, felt that he was the MVP here. The scenes definitely felt very intensed I was super engaged lol. There are also some beautiful scenes of Challe and Anne too which got me squealinggg
I think this episode took on a more serious tone compared to the others. I personally found Anne's determination very endearing and I love how she doesn't give up so easily, I was rooting for her so much
I really want to slap Jonas lol, they really did a good job making such an unlikable character, I always get pissed off seeing his face because of how annoying he is lol. But I hope they do give him some sort of character development as I feel there could be some underlying reason why he acts this way. Love seeing Challe caring for Anne a bit more in each episode.
Omg!!! the unexpected twist in this finale is literally not good for the heart. The emotions of this episode had me punching my pillow with irritation and frustration. Although it highly compels Anne's journey and her steadily growing character development, the frustration I had with the abrupt events left me watching this with 30% satisfaction and 70% irritation. Besides that, the overall aesthetic vibe remains great, featuring excellent color palette transitions depending on the setting. Furthermore, the visual animation is precisely spot on and seamlessly detailed, but the plot progression completely shattered my anticipation.
I found Benjamin so cuteeee, he's lowkey such a mood. Love to see the little bits of romance getting a bit more, shows Challe's progress in warming up to Anne which is so cute. Honestly would love to see more of Benjamin because of how cute he is lol.
Even though Anne's character has a strong mindset and remains confident despite her fragile appearance, I sometimes want her to stand up and hold her ground just like what she did in the past episodes. Furthermore, the twisted mindset of the antagonist in this episode is effectively irritating and incredibly frustrating, which really boils my blood while watching. Plus, the visual animation perfectly captures their expressions during such significant moments.
Ehh, wait!!!! This episode literally had me on a rollercoaster of emotions, leaving me unable to quite understand what to feel while watching. I was angry yet sympathetic, irritated yet romantically thrilled, and in fact, I kept smiling during certain scenes and furious in some parts. Additionally, the plotting of events completely captured my emotions and attention, leaving me anticipating how the story will unfold even further.
While the episode successfully establishes another intriguing layer to the narrative structure and character development, it would have been highly ideal if the time gap was accompanied by nuanced visual changes in the character designs to make the passage of time truly felt. Seeing some visual evolution after such a noticeable jump would have significantly enhanced the immersion. Nevertheless, the way the episode balances lengthy, deep conversations with delicate romantic progression is highly commendable, effectively preventing the overall duration from feeling stagnant.
The romantic momentum and emotional depth of this episode packed a powerful impact, offering deeply heartfelt feelings and a heartwarmingly satisfying spectacle. Plus, the standout moments in this plotline are incredibly rewarding to rewatch, as they deliver a genuinely thrilling spark. And I definitely prefer this kind of subtle, slow burn romance over a fast paced buildup, which can often lessen the overall excitement. Ultimately, the narrative progression in this series is precisely written.
Highlighting the episodes with immensely profound emotional depth that emphasize the deeper substance of Duke William's demeanor efficiently sustains an intense atmospheric momentum. Additionally, it was very satisfying to watch how Jonas' character backfired as he was humbled by Anne, unmasking his own cowardice. Furthermore, the pacing felt weirdly rushed, as if the story moved too quickly, leaving me a brief feeling of bewilderment.
