This builds up well. The introduction of his childhood friend Kohei Kokubo, fresh out of England, adds a fantastic layer of tension and mystery to Hideto's past.
Oh, it was nice! I never thought I would enjoyed this anime, but it was very fun to watch. The soccer match got me all hyped up, to see the character's moment and their backstory really put on the emotions in each of the scene. The animation during matches was also nice, the ball moved smoothly!
Okay... The fledgling Kakegawa team barely took the training wheels off before being pitted up against an all star team! The dreamy background sequence reminded me of the shoujo genre where girl meets boy after pining after him for so long. Embarrassing that it was used here, or was it for comedic affect? To be honest the whole mental break down felt like a lover finding out their spouse was unfaithful, not a valid crash out, but I confess him crying like a baby while stunting on them and scoring goals made the Kakegawa team look even more foolish. It was wild to watch.
