For someone who has read the manga, I noticed that the studio took a very different approach with this adaptation. I can’t really blame them for that, since the manga is much more brutal, and I imagine it would have been difficult to adapt faithfully for television. That said, while the adaptation didn’t leave out any important information, it did cut down significantly on the drama and buildup surrounding Sakurai’s realization. Some important details about his character were also left out, which made his development feel less impactful compared to the manga.
