The whiplash between horrifying backstory reveals and dumb headpat jealousy scenes is exactly why this anime feels so unhinged 😭 one minute trauma, next minute petty competition. All in all, pretty mid

Ngl this episode was kinda a connecting-the-dots episode lol but the Tokyo chaos and turf war setup at least made it feel like bigger things are coming soon.

The pacing slowed down compared to the last few episodes, but the reveal about Aki added a way darker tone to the series that actually made the world feel more unsettling.

Episode Context

Episode 16 closed a dark confrontation while surfacing serious concerns about Yashiro's apprentices, and Episode 17 builds directly on that unresolved tension by grounding those concerns in Aki's personal history. Landing at the midpoint of the 24-episode run, it repositions the group from a contained mission back into a destabilized Tokyo, widening the stakes of the season's central conflict. It functions as a bridge into Episode 18, 'Braves in Danger,' where the immediate threat signaled here appears to fully arrive.
