Directly following Megumi's introduction and her desperate plea for help, episode 9 reveals the true scope of the threat pursuing her, the Oniwabanshu ninja group, escalating the conflict well beyond street-level brawls. This is a pivotal setup episode early in the series' run, establishing the antagonists and their leader Aoshi Shinomori who will drive the immediate arc forward. It marks the transition from Kenshin's episodic encounters into a more sustained, multi-episode confrontation that tests the growing bonds between Kenshin, Sanosuke, and their allies.
