Episode Context

Sitting at episode 70 of 94, this lands deep in the anime-original Shimabara arc, a filler storyline that follows the conclusion of the Kyoto arc. Episode 69 established the setting and introduced the factional tensions in the region, and this episode escalates those confrontations, particularly the Kenshin-Shōgo rivalry, setting the stage for episode 71 where alliances and conspiracies begin to fracture.
