Episode Context

Arriving roughly a third of the way through the full 94-episode run, this episode follows Kenshin's departure in the preceding installment and pivots to develop Aoshi as a major figure with his own trajectory. It deepens the emotional stakes by establishing Aoshi's personal demons and ambitions, laying critical groundwork for future confrontations between him and Kenshin. The evolving dynamics among the cast signal that the series is broadening its scope beyond its protagonist, setting the stage for more complex alliances and rivalries ahead.
