Episode Context

Coming off the more lighthearted Episode 22 and its runaway locomotive adventure, this episode marks a sharp tonal shift by diving into Sanosuke's painful Sekihōtai history. It functions as the emotional setup for Episode 24's anticipated rematch between Kenshin and Sanosuke, building the internal conflict that will fracture the group's dynamic. At episode 23 of 94, this is early-season character groundwork that deepens one of the core cast members well before the series' larger arcs take hold.
