Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 3 Episode 2: Girlfriend Next Door

Kazuya sits alone, haunted by his failed confession. His mind replays the moment Chizuru pulled away, her soft "Sorry" echoing. Back in the resort gardens, he slams his head, consumed by self-loathing for breaking their arrangement. His imagination conjures a cruel future for Chizuru, a vivid, sketch-like nightmare of her abandonment.

Kazuya's self-flagellation is interrupted by Ruka's impatient call; he is late for their pool meeting. He drags himself towards the water park, fearing Chizuru has already left. Inside, the vibrant facility seems alien to his despair as Ruka tries to cheer him, oblivious to his frantic search for any sign of Chizuru. Ruka then lunges, hugging Kazuya publicly, causing him panic and guilt as he realizes her genuine feelings against his own manufactured reality. His friends, Kibe and Kuribayashi, arrive, immediately asking about Chizuru, forcing Kazuya into clumsy excuses.

As the group heads to the shallow water, Kazuya remains on the periphery. A montage of his shared moments with Chizuru plays, reminding him of their evolving bond. He concludes with a heavy heart that their connection, once paid for, was always an illusion. Back in the present, Kazuya lets a beach ball bounce off his head, then sinks to the bottom of the pool, seeking solace in the muffled silence and distorted light. Ruka watches from above, concerned by his prolonged submersion.

Suddenly, Chizuru appears, walking confidently along the pool deck in a striking blue bikini. The scene shifts to slow motion, capturing the stunned reactions of the men around her and the silence that falls over Kazuya's group. Kibe and Kuribayashi are captivated by her beauty, openly admiring her. Kazuya, still paralyzed by their last encounter, cannot meet her eyes.

Chizuru effortlessly slips into her professional persona, making lighthearted excuses for her lateness. Kazuya is struck by her composure, a mix of admiration and pain. As the others move towards the food court, Kazuya and Chizuru trail behind, beginning a crucial conversation. Kazuya apologizes for his confession and tells her he will inform his grandmother of their "breakup," ending their rental arrangement to protect her. Chizuru looks down, her expression unreadable, simply agreeing to his plan.

A flashback reveals a secret meeting between Chizuru and Mami earlier that morning. Chizuru bows deeply, desperately pleading with Mami to keep her rental girlfriend secret from Kazuya's family. Mami responds with a chillingly polite smile, agreeing to keep quiet "for now," her eyes hinting at a malicious intent. In the present, Chizuru visibly tightens her grip on her towel, shaken by the memory and aware of Mami's control over her secret.

Kazuya's grandmother, Nagomi, and his parents arrive at the pool, immediately doting on Chizuru. Nagomi speaks of Chizuru as a future family member, unaware of Kazuya's plan to end the charade. Kazuya feels a sense of impending doom, knowing his decision will hurt his grandmother but believing it is necessary to save Chizuru's career. Chizuru maintains her act, but her gaze frequently darts towards Mami, who watches them from the balcony with predatory intent.

The group enjoys the water slides for a time, and Chizuru even manages a genuine laugh as she splashes into the landing pool. Kazuya finds himself momentarily distracted by her happiness. Ruka quickly pulls his attention back to her as they slide together. Despite the fun, Kazuya feels the pressure of a looming deadline and notices Mami checking her phone with a sinister smirk, reinforcing his conviction to protect Chizuru's smile, even at his own expense.

As the group walks along the pool deck, Mami executes her plan. She "accidentally" drops her smartphone in front of Nagomi. Nagomi picks it up, and the screen clearly displays Chizuru's official Diamond Rental Girlfriend profile. A profound silence falls over the family as the devastating truth is revealed. Chizuru's face contorts in horror. Kazuya stands frozen, his attempt to end the lie gracefully obliterated by Mami's ruthless act. Mami's inner thoughts mock the "fairy tale," declaring "The era of Chizuru Ichinose is over. Now, the real fun begins," leaving the audience with a chilling cliffhanger.
