A deception-filled premiere that introduces a dangerously grim magic school from the first episode. I love how Studio J.C.Staff sets a chilling tone with sprawling gothic architecture, dark shadows, and remarkably smooth, hand-drawn monster movement during a sudden parade crisis.
Quite the lively start to the series. All the characters are in full swing. It's pretty obvious what source material it's referencing - but of course, it has its own twist and style. It's actually a pretty good setup with incredible pacing as it keeps you hooked all the way to the end. Intriguing so far, with hinted at lore/plot that is yet to come. I already sense some kind of pairing between Oliver and Nanao.
The magic looks so smooth and clean. Especially that scene where the colors suddenly change right as she strikes the enemy with her samurai sword.
