Watching Rem sacrifice herself or out herself in harms way for Subaru time and time again, it was so heart-wrenching. She really deserves better. I was so shocked when Otto first asked who she was! This story is amazing with its progression.

Scenes featuring Subaru's fractured psyche were a highlight for me. His breakdown and somewhat uncaring reaction after what happened to Rem was so saddening! Glad the story continues to explore the mental impact and depressing realism of his situation..

Subaru's hot-headed "spur of the moment" personality makes this episode pretty hard to watch, more so when it comes to him and Emilia's talk. Betty finally makes a return in this episode though!

subaru being insufferable again while rem carries the whole show on her back. ubaru punching the driver for "being a jerk" when he's witnessing supernatural memory loss is peak stubborn stupidity. at least betelgeuse getting wrecked by puck at the end was cathartic. rem deserves better.

Writer never fails to amaze me. Every episode, it's gonna break your heart. Every episode, no one understands Subaru. The Way Emilia died in this episode is questionable and no explanation. Little bit disappointed.

This episode feels very heavy. The situation becomes very serious. Subaru goes through a lot and looks very broken. The mood stays dark the whole time. It is one of the most emotional episodes in the season.

UP: Wilhelm's backstory hits like a TRUCK. Man lost his wife to this whale and you FEEL his rage. The fight energy is peak. DOWN: Flashbacks might feel slow but the payoff is worth it. Things going right? That's suspicious. ⚔️

The White Whale is literally a flying nightmare. Instead betrayal from otto is painful to see. Subaru is just like power magnet for tragedy.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at the emotional nadir of the season's second half, Episode 17 follows the devastating failures of 'The Greed of a Pig' and pushes Subaru past every breaking point established so far. This is the darkest hour by design — it serves as the critical setup for Episode 18, 'From Zero,' widely regarded as one of the series' most important turning points. Without enduring this low, the emotional payoff of what follows simply wouldn't land.
