A martial arts prodigy with one very specific problem, Ranma Saotome turns into a girl whenever cold water hits him. Hot water turns him back. This has been inconvenient since the day his idiot father dragged him to cursed training grounds in China, and it's not getting any less inconvenient now that he's engaged to Akane Tendo, a girl who'd rather punch him than admit she cares. The third season of MAPPA's modernized Ranma ½ picks up right where things left off: Furinkan High School is still a war zone, the Tendo Dojo is still ground zero for every cursed weirdo and lovesick rival in Japan, and Ranma and Akane are still dancing around each other while pretending they aren't. Ryoga shows up heartbroken, Shampoo shows up aggressive, and Genma shows up as a panda. The whole thing runs on a kind of perfectly calibrated chaos — martial arts fights that shift mid-combo because someone got splashed, romantic moments that get torpedoed by the worst possible interruption, and a cast that keeps growing more unhinged. MAPPA's animation gives the slapstick real weight and the fight choreography genuine flair, updating the 80s energy without sanding off what made it work. If you liked the Urusei Yatsura remake or grew up on stuff like Love Hina, this is the original tsundere romance that inspired half of them. It's funny, it's messy, and the Ranma-Akane dynamic still holds up remarkably well.
