The episode does well into making the viewer intrigued by the narrative without giving much away, enticing people with its visuals and music. Our introduction we have to the main character, Madoka, is a near instant attachment to her sweetness and innocence. A modern classic

Mysterious debut hooks instantly! Homura's cryptic warning intrigues. Mami's magical girl reveal shocks. Kyubey's true nature unclear. Perfect opening establishing magic system beautifully.

That opening dream already feels off—Madoka running through distorted space sets the tone instantly. It looks magical, but something underneath feels wrong. Strong hook without revealing too much. 😶

At first, it looks cute, but the tone is a little off. Compared to the school scenes, the dream sequence is weird and dark. It makes you want to know more, but it also makes you nervous.

Consider me hooked with that cryptic beginning! We're taken into the life of Madoka Kaname, a shy school girl who's seemingly familiar to a transfer student Homura Akemi. Apart from feeling a sense of unease with Homura's actions, the episode does very well in layering the tension within the scene. I'm really excited to see more.

I like its concept of magical girls and witches, this is one of the few magical girl anime's that get so unsettling. I love how the art style is usually cute, but changes into chaotic and realistic looking designs when they face a witch.

Madoka Magica shocked me at first for being completely different from Mahou Shoujo animes, It's not cute and sweet as we expect. The darkness builds subtly and has a deep heart-breaking lore, you can't predict the story and that makes the first episode especially gripping.

Great start to a Magical girl anime. Introduces the pure main character and slowly shows the darkness of the world surrounding her. Art style is gorgeous, and the random zoom angles put emphasis on body language. Surreal art is used in spots, making the dark impact very effective
