Episode Context

As episode 1 of 93, this is the foundational premiere for Ash's entire Kalos journey, bridging directly from his Unova-era travels and the Decolore Islands detour. It establishes the core cast and setting that will carry through the full run, including gym battles, new rivals, and the region's unique Mega Evolution mechanic. Everything introduced here, Ash's new companions, the city of Lumiose, and the adventurous tone, serves as the launchpad for the arcs ahead.
