Katy is so much more intimidating than you would expect, especially the way she shut down Coral for being a brat during the baking contest.

It was actually wild to see Gym Leaders back in the anime after such a long break and Katy had such a great presence as a teacher

I love how chaotic Coral is because she just reminds me so much of Jesse when she threw that tantrum at the shop

Liko lost her first Tera battle but Katy still passed her and it kind of feels like a participation trophy even if the fight looked cool

The baking contest part felt a bit like filler to me since Liko is suddenly a pro chef but at least the Terastal animation was beautiful

Seeing Murdock just hanging out with Katy was a nice touch for the world and it makes the Rising Volt Tacklers feel connected to the regions
connie_comrade's avatar

That cake making contest was such a random way to decide a battle order and Coral throwing a fit over sweets is the only reason I watch this show now
shinnosuke_258's avatar
shinnosuke_258
I was a bit bummed that the battle ended so fast and it felt kind of short for a gym leader fight but seeing Liko finally use Terastallization made up for it
nabooru_268's avatar

I think it was weird that Friede was totally missing this time but it gave Liko space to breathe and handle things herself
tsunderekid's avatar

I thought Liko using Magical Leaf to block the Sweet Scent was such a cool idea because it reminded me so much of the clever tricks Ash used to pull off

Coral getting disqualified for using her pokemon to bake was the highlight because she is so chaotic and seeing her get mad about sold out sweets never gets old
iida_ingenium's avatar
iida_ingenium
Some people are mad that Liko passed after losing the battle but the way she handled the Tera orb for the first time showed she actually learned the lesson Katy was teaching
korok's avatar

I thought the way Liko got her first Tera transformation was worth the wait and Floragato looks so cool with that jewel crown on her head

sailor_galaxia_390
I really liked how they did the cake battle before the actual gym fight because it showed a different side of Coral and she is basically a total chaos magnet and watching Liko win that part was a nice change of pace even though Katy totally outclassed her in the real battle later it felt like a classic pokemon episode

Even though she lost the fight, Katy giving Liko the stamp anyway was a great move because it rewards her for actually learning her lesson

Katy using Normal types to mess with Grass types is a big brain move and Liko struggling against that strategy made the whole training session feel much more grounded

The way Katy teaches about putting your heart into things was really sweet plus she looks like she could actually be dangerous in a serious fight

It felt weird seeing Liko pass after losing to Katy, but it makes sense since this is a training course and not a standard gym challenge where you need a win

The connection between Murdock and Katy made the town feel like a real place instead of just another random stop on the map

The Tera animation for Floragato was really pretty and it is great to see the series actually diving into the Paldea mechanics

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming directly off Liko's enrollment at Naranja Academy, this episode serves as her first practical Terastal training assessment—transitioning her from student to active challenger. It builds on the groundwork laid in prior episodes establishing her goals and sets the stage for increasingly difficult battles and deeper mastery of Terastal mechanics moving forward.
