Lacey using that Fairy Tera Type on her Excadrill caught Ult so off guard and it was a perfect way to show him why type matchups actually matter in a real battle

Ult actually dropping the tough guy act and asking for help was a huge step for him. He really took Laceys advice to heart and actually started listening during the fight for once

Ult admitting he felt too weak to protect anyone after those Six Heroes fights totally caught me off guard. He's always so loud and in charge, so to see him actually vulnerable made me realize just how much pressure he puts on himself to be strong.

The side stuff with Carmine and Dot had me laughing because that Astonish spam during their fight was ridiculous, and then you have Roy over there trying to lay down exactly like Drayton. It was a nice break from the serious training, because the main focus on Ult was pretty heavy and seeing Carmine get all jealous of Liko felt very in character

Ult's face when he kept bombing those quiz questions had me in stitches; Lacey really put him in his place, making it clear he needs to hit the books on his Pokémon facts, and I honestly think this is just the motivation he needed to actually pay attention for once.

I caught myself smiling when Dragonite came out of the ball on its own to help Ult out since it shows they are becoming real partners

Lacey telling Ult that Clay is her dad was the coolest reveal and seeing her use his Excadrill made that connection even better for long time fans of the games

Lacey is exactly the kind of person needed to put Ult in his place and her smarts during that battle were on another level compared to his usual brute force

I was genuinely surprised by how effectively Lacey got under Ult's skin during that quiz battle; I mean, he usually seems so composed. It was honestly pretty satisfying to see him rattled for once, like he needed that reality check to snap him out of whatever funk he's been in.

Carmine mentioned Kieran and now seeing him show up in the anime seems possible because her jealousy over Liko is starting to get really funny

I have mixed feelings about this one, because seeing Ult grow up a bit was great and his Dragonite moment felt earned, but the rest of the cast had nothing to do. Roy just imitating a Slakoth felt like a waste of time, and Liko was basically a background character for Terapagos which made the pacing feel very lopsided throughout.

Roy mimicking Drayton and trying to be all relaxed was so funny and it shows how much he looks up to the older trainers even when he is being a bit of a goof

The infinite Astonish loop with Gimmighoul and Sinistcha was so funny to watch and it was nice to see Dot getting some comedy time with Carmine instead of just more training

Lacey absolutely dismantling Ult with those quiz questions really exposed how little he actually knows about his own Pokemon beyond just brute force

Ult's struggle with his Dragonite was surprisingly relatable; I’ve definitely felt that frustration when something just isn't clicking. Seeing Drayton's effortless bond with his own Dragonite must've been a huge eye-opener for Ult, making me wonder if he'll finally change his approach.

I was surprised by how good the animation looked during the main battle because those sequences were so smooth and kept the energy high

suzaku_kururugi_172
Dragonite just popping out of the pokeball whenever it wants without Ult even touching the button made no sense to me but the bond they showed at the end was still nice

Liko and Roy felt like they were just stuck in filler while Ult got all the real attention and seeing Roy just acting like a Slakoth today felt like a weird choice
usagi_tsukino_372's avatar
usagi_tsukino_372
Carmine saying Dot reminds her of Kieran was such a weird little detail and it makes the whole family dynamic with the DLC characters feel way more connected

The Astonish battle between Sinistcha and Gimmighoul made me laugh so much, it was so stupid and reminded me of the classic Harden meme from the first season

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode follows directly from the group's arrival at the Terarium Dome, where structured training has begun in earnest. It narrows the lens onto Ult's personal development, establishing his overconfidence as a hurdle that will likely inform his trajectory in upcoming episodes. The dynamics between Ult and Lacey set up here feed into the broader pattern of character evolution and deepening trainer relationships that define this stretch of the series.
