Episode Context

This episode directly follows Ash's humbling loss to Sabrina's overpowered Psychic-type Pokémon, sending him on a targeted mission to find a Ghost-type counter at Lavender Town's Pokémon Tower. It serves as the critical middle chapter in the Sabrina arc, bridging the initial defeat with the upcoming rematch in 'Haunter vs. Kadabra,' where Ash will challenge for the Marsh Badge. The detour to Pokémon Tower adds strategic depth to Ash's journey, showing him actively problem-solving rather than simply grinding forward.
