Ash, Misty, Brock and the gang are on a ship heading to the Whirl Islands and they encounter powerful whirlpools that threaten to drag them under. They get saved but Team Rocket tries to steal Pokemon from the Pokemon Center.

Episode Context

Coming off 'Machoke, Machoke Man!' and the broader Johto adventure, this episode serves as the gateway into the Whirl Islands arc, introducing the Whirl Cup competition that will dominate the next stretch of episodes. It transitions the group from mainland Johto to ocean-based challenges, shifting the narrative focus toward Water-type Pokémon and giving Misty heightened relevance. The following episode, 'Fly Me to the Moon,' continues exploring the Whirl Islands as the crew encounters new trainers and Pokémon ahead of the tournament.
