Episode Context

Coming off the standalone 'Houndoom's Special Delivery,' this episode pivots the Johto journey into Ecruteak City and introduces Gym Leader Morty, marking the beginning of a focused two-episode stretch. It functions as essential groundwork, establishing the city's lore and Morty's connection to it, before the actual Gym battle unfolds in the following episode, 'From Ghost to Ghost.' At episode 183 of 276, the series is deep in the Johto League arc, and this arrival signals Ash's next major competitive challenge.
