EPISODE REVIEWS

Beautiful episode showing the dark side some trainers possess, yet Charmander’s loyalty shines through. High emotional stakes and the first look at neglectful trainers... However, anyone else think Charmander should’ve gone to Brock?

Episode Context

Positioned between 'Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village' and 'Here Comes the Squirtle Squad,' this episode is the middle chapter in a critical three-episode stretch that shapes Ash's core team for the Indigo League journey. The group is still en route to Vermilion City, but this detour introduces a Pokémon whose arrival carries long-term significance. It builds directly on the show's growing emphasis that being a great trainer is about empathy, not just battle strength.
