This shifts to a darker, more emotional tone after the silly ninja madness in the last ep. Hachimaki’s sweet new friend Nono is a fascinating character who really adds to the worldbuilding and atmosphere. The gentle vocal track in this ep adds such a wonderful vibe! Solid ep.

The most emotionally-charged episode so far. The series really picks up from here and we get more world and character building. There's also a significant rise in overall quality. The music choice here is amazing, especially in the scene with Nono and Hachi on the moon.

Coming off the lighter, more comedic 'The Lunar Flying Squirrels,' episode 7 marks a tonal pivot toward the kind of serious character work that defines Planetes at its best. Positioned roughly a quarter into the 26-episode run, it deepens Hachimaki's internal journey at a critical juncture, laying emotional groundwork that carries directly into episode 8, 'A Place to Cling to,' which continues exploring the personal struggles weighing on the crew.
