The fight scene is tense but restrained, showing Migi and Shinichi’s advantage. Parasites like Tamiya are clever, not just killers. Glimpses of Shinichi’s parents reveal his mother’s love and suspicion, while the episode subtly foreshadows future moral and personal conflict.

The episode focuses on relationships between the two protagonists, Shinichi and Tamiya, and their relationships with their mothers. Each of their mothers was able to notice the changes in them even though not being able to pinpoint the exact reason, adding more emotional depth.

Damn, the animation is amazing. I love it, hahaha. The highlight of this EP was Ryoko killing her own kind and later her mother, it really shows how different parasites are from humans. This episode delivers a mix of action, character growth, and emotional tension

A flashback that can make us cry in the middle of an episode that shows us the lack of empathy and morality of parasytes? That contrast really deserves a thumbs up 👍 Also, the suspense is really killing me right now. Can’t really get enough. Can’t get myself to stop now!

The fight with Mr. A delivers satisfying payoff. Ryōko's gas tank escape is brilliantly cold. Her speech about Parasites' directive adds chilling depth. Migi's separation experiment adds levity before a tense close. Shinichi's growth feels very real here.

Shinichi's mom remembering the glass scar is sweet but also… yeah that's definitely coming back later. the fight with A gets BRUTAL. Ryouko killing her own partner and casually walking away? coldest moment yet. you just KNOW something bad is about to happen. 🩸

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting early in a 24-episode run, 'Disheveled Hair' serves as a critical decompression point after the intense parasite encounters of episodes 2 and 3, pivoting from survival instincts to the emotional toll of Shinichi's new reality. This episode establishes the psychological and thematic groundwork—identity crisis, moral gray areas, and the Shinichi-Migi dynamic—that will fuel the series' escalation through its first major arc. The threads involving Ryoko Tamiya and Shinichi's family introduced here become increasingly central to the story's direction in the episodes ahead.
