Overlord IV Episode 13: The witch of the Falling kingdom

The episode opens with Mare Bello Fiore on a rooftop, surveying the city about to fall. He considers the most efficient method of destruction, rejecting fire for its lack of control. A nervous pump of his fist, a small shout, and the unseen creatures behind him prepare to move. The scale of the coming horror is set, delivered by a child-like figure.

Inside the palace, Climb watches the city, worried. Princess Renner enters, calm, holding a golden sword. She tells him they must hurry for 'one last thing,' a 'little revenge' against the Sorcerer Kingdom. Her eyes hold a chilling glee that Climb misses entirely. They find King Ramposa III, clutching his crown, resigned to fate. He gestures to royal treasures, knowing history itself is now forfeit.

King Ramposa III orders Climb to flee with Renner through a secret passage, believing this might save them. Renner refuses, her voice sharp, stating, "Climb is mine." She proposes hiding the royal treasures instead, a ruse to buy time. As Climb prepares to leave, Renner clutches his hands, her voice trembling with false tears. She begs him to return safely, to run and not fight, securing his devotion for her true, darker purpose.

Elsewhere, Aura Bella Fiora stands before the Magicians' Guild, flanked by her beasts. An old master magician confronts her, demanding her purpose. Aura casually asks for the treasury, offering to spare their lives. When the master refuses, intent on protecting powerful artifacts, Aura delivers a single, impossibly fast arrow, killing him instantly. She then gives a cold command to her beasts: "Kill them all." The screams begin as Aura walks away, indifferent to the carnage.

Climb runs through the deserted streets, the heavy bag of treasures thumping, smoke rising around him. He sees a massive dome of ice engulfing the royal palace. Suddenly, Mare appears on a rooftop, warning him casually that the area is about to be destroyed. Mare speaks with a shy, almost apologetic tone about leveling the entire section of the city. Climb, bewildered and terrified, can only continue his desperate flight.

Climb returns to the palace, finding it eerily empty. He discovers a note from Renner redirecting him to the throne room. As he approaches, Frost Virgins block his path, telling him to enter as the 'last human' of this palace. Inside, Ainz Ooal Gown sits on the throne with his guardians. Below, King Ramposa III lies dead, his crown abandoned, and Princess Renner weeps beside him, her hands stained with blood. Climb's world shatters.

Climb rushes to Renner's side, but Demiurge forces him to his knees with a magical command. Ainz notes Climb's defiance, comparing his eyes to Gazef Stronoff's. He releases Climb, who then furiously accuses Ainz of manipulation and murder. Ainz accepts Climb's challenge, offering Renner's life as the stake. He then launches into a philosophical monologue, stating that in reality, unlike stories, there is no hidden power to save the hero. He declares that Climb will die because he lacks talent, asserting that birth and luck dictate life, and death is the only true equality.

Despite Ainz's words, Climb struggles to his feet, bruised but unyielding. He declares his unwavering loyalty to Renner, seeing himself as her shield. Ainz then gestures to Gazef's legendary Golden Sword, Razor Edge, inviting Climb to wield it. Climb activates a ring, Gazef's final gift, enveloping himself in brilliant green light, pushing his limits. Ainz asks who will suffer more, he or Renner, a final taunt. Climb charges, a whirlwind of desperate strikes, but Ainz parries effortlessly.

Climb channels his last strength into a single, martial art strike. The sword connects with Ainz's chest, creating an explosion of light. Yet, Ainz stands unharmed, catching the blade in his hand, crushing its magic. He tells Climb the strike was fine, but not enough. Ainz swiftly counters, sending Climb flying, critically wounded. Climb tries to crawl towards Renner, his hand outstretched, before Ainz delivers the final blow. The 9th-tier spell [Grasp Heart] silences Climb's life instantly, his body going limp. The screen fades to black, a distant, muffled cry the only sound.

Climb awakens in an unfamiliar room, feeling cold and heavy. Renner sits beside his bed, her expression serene, her eyes unnervingly bright. She greets him, revealing she is no longer human, but a demon, a reward from the Sorcerer King. Small bat wings sprout from her back, her eyes glowing. Renner calmly explains she sold the kingdom for their eternal lives together, her father's death a necessary 'theater'. She demands Climb also become a demon, swear loyalty to Ainz, or else die. Broken and unable to envision a world without her, Climb whispers his oath.

Renner, now in her demonic form, meets Albedo. She bows in humble submission. Albedo praises Renner's meticulous planning, noting how efficiently she orchestrated the kingdom's downfall. Ainz was impressed by her cold efficiency. Renner expresses worshipping gratitude for the Sorcerer King's 'generosity.' Albedo then presents her with the 'Seed of Corruption,' promising mastery of her new powers. She warns Renner of eternal torment if she ever wavers in her loyalty to Ainz.

Alone, Renner begins a twisted, joyful song, dancing through the palace, her wings fluttering. Her lyrics are a manic celebration of securing her eternal future with Climb, the ruined kingdom her foundation. A flashback montage reveals her secret deal with Albedo, kneeling before her, offering the kingdom for Climb. Other flashbacks show her manipulating her brother Zanac and Marquis Raeven, and planning the invasion's tactical details with Demiurge. The montage concludes with her obsessive, predatory gaze upon an unaware Climb, her entire betrayal driven by this twisted love.

Renner's song ends as she surveys the burning city, a look of grim satisfaction on her face. Ainz and Albedo stand amidst the rubble, overseeing the surrender of the remaining nobles. Marquis Raeven and other lords kneel, broken and defeated. Ainz accepts their submission, promising to spare their lives if they serve faithfully. He orders them to return to their lands and maintain order, noting that Nazarick will eventually reorganize everything. The once-proud leaders depart, their purpose now reduced to serving their destroyer.

Ainz reflects on the annihilation, satisfied that the message to the world is clear: defiance means total destruction. Albedo admires his vision and efficiency. Ainz looks out at the ruined palace, his crimson eye sockets glowing with triumphant finality. The camera pans away, showing the desolate landscape, a golden sword stuck in rubble—a lonely reminder of a lost era. Ainz expresses his pleasure, the kingdom officially over.
