episode 2 is where the show really starts finding its rhythm and honestly it might be even funnier than the premiere. the mystery of who has been leaving threatening notes for Mizuki gets resolved here and the answer is so perfectly on brand for this show that i actually laughed out loud.but before we get to that the episode gives us more Nakamura and i am so glad it did. this man shows up soaking wet in the rain just to dramatically play the role of Mizuki's fake boyfriend and scare off her stalker, and he does it with such complete commitment to the bit that you can't even be annoyed at how over the top he is. the slow walk through the rain, the theatrical speech, the gloves. Nakamura is already shaping up to be one of the best characters in the show purely because his delusions are the most visually dramatic and the show knows exactly how to frame them for maximum comedic effect.the reveal of who was threatening Mizuki and why is genuinely clever. it's not played for horror or real tension — the show is smart enough to know that would be tonally wrong — but it does give the episode a little bit of stakes that make the Hero Club's eventual response feel earned rather than random. watching them collectively swing into action for Mizuki even when their methods are completely chaotic was a surprisingly warm moment buried underneath all the cringe comedy.what episode 2 also does well is start hinting that underneath all the chunibyo nonsense these boys actually care about each other and about Mizuki. it's early but you can already feel it and that warmth is what's going to make this show more than just a gag anime.
