The show really leans into the most uncomfortable premises and Maa-kun getting a crush on a hamster is just pure absurdity for this cast. You finally see his girlfriend too, and it just adds this extra layer of cringe to his secret obsession with Ebichu while they are all hanging out together in that messy apartment.
