EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming directly after Mitsuko's initial subjugation in Episode 1, this episode widens the scope of the Takayanagi household's dysfunction by introducing Sumie as a key figure whose role complicates Mitsuko's already limited options. Rather than escalating through action, Episode 2 deepens the psychological groundwork — establishing who holds power and why — which makes the more extreme humiliations teased for Episode 3 feel structurally inevitable rather than arbitrary.
