Mistreated Bride
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Born into nobility, Mitsuko marries into the wealthy Takayanagi family, expecting a quiet, respectable life with her husband Ichirou. What she gets instead is something far more unsettling. From the moment she steps into that sprawling estate and meets the patriarch Tomizo and the rest of the household, something feels off. The family is polished on the surface, traditional, structured — but the tension underneath is suffocating, and Mitsuko slowly realizes the role she's actually been brought in to fill. Don't go in expecting a slow-burn romance. This is a dark, psychologically uncomfortable story about power, manipulation, and a woman trapped inside a system designed to exploit her. The character designs lean into the contrast between Mitsuko's dignity and the ugliness surrounding her, and the atmosphere — the soundtrack especially — keeps things genuinely tense rather than gratuitous. It's a 4-episode OVA from 2005 by Studio Soul, adapted from manga, so it's short but focused. If you've watched Kuro Ai: Hitoyozumakan Inkou Rannyuuroku or Shitai wo Arau and appreciated that darker, moodier approach to the genre over pure shock value, this sits in similar territory. It's not a comfortable watch, and that's kind of the point. Go in knowing what you're getting into.
